Tabea Pakull joined the WisPerMed Research Training Group as a doctoral researcher after completing her Master's degree in Medical Informatics at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Dortmund in 2024. In her master's thesis she leveraged natural language processing and standardized medical terminologies to extract structured information from free-text medical reports. Prior to her master's program, she studied Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in Computer Science at the University of Applied Sciences Hamm-Lippstadt. As part of her PhD she is researching the summarization of scientific and medical texts using transformers for both clinicians and lay-persons. Her research interests include improving medical terminologies with lay terms and incorporating explainability components into AI.
