Dr. Henning Schäfer receives Doctoral Award

Congratulations to Dr. Henning Schäfer on receiving the Doctoral Award from FH Dortmund – University of Applied Sciences and Arts Dortmund!
We are proud to celebrate this outstanding achievement by one of the researchers from the first cohort of the WisPerMed Research Training Group.
Dr. Schäfer completed his Dr. rer. medic. with the dissertation “Analyse unstrukturierter Texte aus Publikationen” (“Analysis of Unstructured Texts from Publications”). His research addresses one of the major challenges in modern biomedical research: transforming vast amounts of unstructured biomedical literature into structured, interoperable knowledge that can support clinical decision-making and accelerate scientific discovery.
By combining state-of-the-art NLP, transformer-based AI models, knowledge graphs, and biomedical ontologies, his work enables more effective access to the latest medical evidence, supports clinical decision support systems, and lays the foundation for future AI-powered applications such as retrieval-augmented generation.
This award recognizes not only academic excellence but also research with significant potential to improve healthcare and biomedical innovation.
Congratulations, Henning, on this well-deserved recognition!
