Merlin Engelke successfully defends his PhD thesis

We warmly congratulate Merlin on the successful defense of his doctoral dissertation last week — with the highest distinction (summa cum laude).

As an associated doctoral researcher, Merlin was co-supervised by Prof. Dr. Peter Horn and Prof. Dr. Felix Nensa. His dissertation explored how AI-driven data analytics and FHIR-based interfaces can optimize the management of blood products - with the goal of reducing supply shortages, enhancing clinical decision-making, and ultimately improving patient care.

Merlin’s research exemplifies the WisPerMed spirit: interdisciplinary, clinically relevant, and methodologically innovative. We’re excited to see Merlin’s insights continue to shape both research and practice in the digital transformation of healthcare.

We also join Merlin in thanking the many mentors and collaborators who supported his journey — including Felix Nensa, Peter Horn, Jens Kleesiek, Eric Schott, Falko Walther, Anke Diehl, Giulia Baldini, Vicky Parmar, Katarzyna Borys, Nils Flaschel, Cynthia Sabrina Schmidt, Christian Martin Briske, Sven Steffen Becker, Ronny Engelke, and Katharina Engelke.

Congratulations, Merlin!
